A new Iowa State University study examined how variation in dual language status among Head Start students connected with development in cognitive and academic areas. The investigation team led by Ji-Young Choi, a helper professor of Human Development and Family Studies, found dual-language learners (DLLs) had significant growth, eventually outperforming students who only spoke English, once DLLs gained basic English proficiency. The end result are published from the journal Early Childhood Research Quarterly.
