Tau Beta Pi has initiated their newbies this fall! The Tau Beta Pi Association is the oldest engineering honor society in the us plus the second oldest collegiate honor society in the states. Its manufactured from honors engineering students who may have shown past academic achievement as well as a commitment to personal and professional integrity.
“Our purpose would be to uphold to qualities of excellence and integrity of engineering,” said Tayah Turocy, current president of Tau Beta Pi. “We try to be heroines, achieve academic success, and hold leadership positions while being connected with a substantial network of engineers.”
Tau Beta Pi is one of the multiple Ohio Lambda Chapters at YSU. There’s a similar process of initiation to the other chapters on campus. They really celebrate the tough work of students. The target audience supports dedicated, hardworking, and successful engineers.
“After our initiation in the week of 41 initiates, we’ve almost 60 active members within our Ohio Lambda chapter. Tau Beta Pi is actually a society that particular must be invited to join. Each student has to be of junior status or higher to be considered,” said Tayah. “A student is eligible if it is pursuing an engineering degree and are also during the top 1/8th of the junior class, top 1/5th of their total senior class, or top 1/5th within their graduate class.”
Tau Beta Pi hosts several events each year. Their two main events are their fall and spring initiation. Their initiation process may be very involved.
“Candidates go through a discussion process together with the current members, and perhaps they are elected by vote,” said Tayah. “After being elected to participate in, candidates undergo an initiation ceremony, please take a group photo while in front of our symbol, the “bent,” and are invited to celebrate with regards to their guests at a banquet.”
Additionally, Tau Beta Pi hosts Engineer’s Week. That is a weeklong competition in spring between civil engineering, chemical engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and mathematics students. The events of a few days include paper airplanes to duct tape an organization member to the wall to penny wars.
Throughout all seasons, Tau Beta Pi also holds a Pi day event, futures for engineers’ sessions. Issues seen people wandering campus with laptop stickers that seem to be like Ohio this may let you “Y” for Youngstown, that’s also Tau Beta Pi!

Although a student has to be invited to participate in, it is rarely ahead of time or already happened to consider joining.
