When George Starke Jr. enrolled on the University of Florida’s law school, he didn’t buy his books prior to the day before classes started.
It was 1958, and someone through the Florida Alligator advised Starke, the university’s first African-American student, to visit in order to minimize distraction or disruption.
Now 87, Starke, a local of Orlando, returned to your law school today for an event commemorating Sixty years of desegregation at UF.
