Children and fogeys at Upton Junior School in Broadstairs were super sleuths for a day, cracking a series of crazy codes.
They faced a puzzling scenario that needed many different maths skills to unravel.
Deputy head teacher Dave Walker had forgotten his four digit code into a padlock that unlocks a chest containing important possessions he urgently necessary in time for the Upton ‘colour run’ event.
Being an ex-code breaker, Mr Walker ensured he’d a fail-safe number of puzzles that, when solved, would reveal the four digits found it necessary to unlock biceps.
Parents of the season 3, 4 and 5 children worked to eliminate five puzzles so that you can have the answers C such as simple code breaking by using a key, some addition, Algebra, and plotting coordinates to produce shapes.

Inside biceps was obviously a various silly items, for example huge goggles, a magic whistle and a king’s crown (for Mr Walker).
Hayden Stevens, Upton’s maths lead, said: “The overall intent behind the big event ended up demonstrate how maths could be fun.
“At Upton the individual is rooted in solving problems, where children may use the maths they can be learning at a daily basis.
“The secondary purpose ended up being explore how everyone is able to be learning through the same task, resulting in the added challenges that could keep also the brightest and fastest mathematicians fully engaged.”
