Thanet GCSEs 2018: Massive increasing amount of Level 4 and above passes for Royal Harbour Academy

Royal Harbour Academy in Ramsgate is celebrating an immense improvement in GCSE results as compared with during the past year.

Last year tougher examinations followed enhancing new gradings for GCSEs in English and Maths.

The grades now run from 9 to one replacing the first kind A* to G grades. A quantity 4 now represents C grade and 7/8/9 are corresponding to A and A*. At the moment the fresh grading is true of all subjects.

Last year students at Royal Harbour Academy struggled with 12% achieving English and Maths combined passes at Level 4 or above. This season containing risen to 30.4%.

Head teacher Simon Pullen said: “The teachers worked hard and incredibly dedicated to helping students prepare for the exams.

“When the greater number of difficult qualification was introduced it had become said those students about the C/D grade line would suffer disproportionately but we have now bucked that trend.”

Work towards this year’s exams included relationships into the Coastal Academies Trust, an umbrella for isle schools including King Ethelbert and? Dane Court.

Trust executive head Paul Luxmoore said: “There has long been collaboration with CAT and support from King Ethelbert with no shortage of those skills used RHA, especially in English.

“It is few years ever since the merger of Marlowe and Ellington and Hereson. There’s a successful initial year but this past year results dipped as students adjusted for the new qualifications.

“The merger was obviously a massive move require results do a lot to warrant that. There’s still an effective way to go but you can express it is working.”

Separately, in Maths recently the amount 4 or more rate was 23%, this coming year it’s 41%. There is an excellent bigger improvement in English having a 47% Level 4 or above pass rate as compared with 21% recently.

Notable results include Jamie-Louise Harkett with 10 passes including four Level 9 grades (A* equivalent); Sophie Ring gained 10 passes with one level 8 and 2 level 6 grades and Kieran Bowman secured 10 passes with three level 7s and three level 6 grades.

Max Sampson (pictured) celebrated a 5 in maths, 6 in English as well as two level 4s and is already at a two year carpentry apprenticeship.

Elysia Styles achieved level 6 passes in English Lit and Language, a 5 in RE and also a 4 in Maths amongst her grades.
