Newington pupils hit the campaign trail for Democracy Week elections

The new head children at Newington Community Primary in Ramsgate have pledged that can help fellow pupils, staff and also their school community.

Two head boys as well as two head girls C Kate and Sophia, Kye and Ronnie C were selected after a dozen candidates hit the election trail searching for votes for the ballot boxes that have been slipped into the college reception desk.

They created promotional posters, assembled manifestos, and presented campaign speeches to classes through the school as an element of Newington Democracy Week.

Sophia said: “We are proud to get been chosen so we wish to be role models for your fellow pupils through the school.”

The expertise of the Year 6 candidates was high that this remaining eight are usually deputy head children.

Teacher Dani Jamieson co-ordinated the election. She said: “The pupils worked unattainable, creating sensible campaign ideas, creating posters, and addressing assemblies using ideas.”

The ‘returning officer’ who announced the election results in the special assembly was Ramsgate Town Councillor Tricia Hartley who represents Newington ward.

She said: “I am so impressed with how this campaign has become conducted. Almost certainly the youngsters will represent their classmates and help others within their new duties. They’re going to be excellent ambassadors for the fantastic school.”

Head Teacher Cliff Stokes said: “It is critical for pupils to find out about their rights as voters and approximately enjoying the election process. This is an excellent technique for teaching them about how exactly democracy works.

“The campaign speeches were passionate and many centred on our Newington Winners ethos, exactly what was need to be a pupil at Newington as well as what they could do today help enhance school life.”
