
The Alachua County School Board struck a deal together with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office for varsity resource officer funding for that upcoming school year.
In a workshop this morning, Sheriff Sadie Darnell asked the college board for someone else $430,000 on her behalf school resource officer program in the $680,000 the faculty board initially offered her. School board members were reluctant to commit these funds, with a lot of citing the fact that the other money really should emerge from the board’s general fund.
Still, over the board’s meeting Tuesday night, the board unanimously agreed with Superintendent Karen Clarke’s suggestion of $215,000 compromise for ACSO. That’s most of what Darnell was demanding, summing to the grand total approximately $895,000 for the 2018-19 school year.
“I was type of reviewing my notes from previous meetings saying, ‘Where can we go?'” Clarke said as soon as the meeting. “I returned and checked the presentation in the workshop as well as sheriff created examine say, ‘We’re quibbling over $430,000.’ I really said, ‘Well, if that is how long apart we’ve been, let’s meet at the center.'”
After factoring within the increases the board need to allow the other police agencies providing SRO services, the board shall be contributing $430-440,000 total, Clarke said. Your money might be emerging from the board’s general fund.
Darnell accepted the sale, although she stated that she’d like to relocate toward a far more even split within the SRO costs between the school board plus the Board of County Commissioners for next school year.
