Hello STEMians!

The model airplane while using YSU Y the side.

Our gang of students on the Electrical Engineering Capstone course recently visited Morgantown, West Virginia, to sign up within the IEEE Student Activities Conference.?This conference is composed of students from universities found in Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, On the internet services, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. Our group included: myself (Tyler Vitullo), Kevin Marstellar, Christopher Smaldino, Kurt Shambaugh, and Nathan Jones.

The group standing outside utilizing their project.

Chris, Nate, and i also are also from the Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program, that was an essential part of your success. Choose Ohio First Conferences have prepared us in this event, and they’ve got provided essential funding for the project.

At other sellers, we displayed our project inside First Energy Project Showcase. We won second place as well as a monetary award by popular vote from the kids and professors within the conference. Lots of people were impressed with your project, and we’ve also received a great deal of positive recognition and many news coverage within the last couple of weeks. This has been an exceptional conclusion for all of the use this project!

Our project design ended up require a remote-controlled model aircraft based off one particular how the U.S. Military uses of their overseas operations.?Our goal while using the plane ended up increase the flight time by using solar cells.?The big assortment of solar cells on top of Moser Hall was a motivation towards team, while we were going to better understand solar powered energy to have benefit for its capabilities.

The certificate from your competition.

Our plane flies approximately Half-hour without solar panels, and approximately 50-55 minutes using the additional solar power. That was higher than a 50% improvement! We are very happy while using results.

To further increase the plane, additionally we added a mounted, rotating camera; a GPS to track the plane; as well as a wireless module to mail flight characteristics to our own computer mid-flight.?We needed an exhibit station that is helpful to monitor flick and control the plane, and we developed a design that is near a military environment.?We think which our design may very well be found in the long term from the military to reinforce current drone technology, and also by law enforcement and emergency agencies.
