50 Florida Youth Attend Presidential Inauguration

Fifty youth from Florida attended the presidential inauguration in Washington, D.C. today, to discover U.S. government and civic engagement, included in a youth-development program from your University of Florida.

4-H, a gaggle of over 100 public universities throughout the nation which provides teenagers the ability to learn through hands-on experiences, taken part in a nationwide program, called Citizen Washington Focus, sending youth for the inauguration.

Being among the universities supporting 4-H, UF had the capacity for you members, ages 14 to 19, from 15 counties in Florida to Washington, D.C. Chris DeCubellis, associated state program leader for 4-H youth development with UF, said the youth were inside capital from Jan. 17 to Jan. 20, and although there, got a chance to tour museums, monuments, and attend educational workshops.

DeCubellis said the trip was in create almost two years, and that civil engagements are crucial for young adults to turn into productive individuals.

“These young people will probably have a once-in-a-lifetime experience to actually explore a brief history within the presidency of the nation, be aware of the election process, see the role within the press, know more about citizenship through civic education, and naturally the plenty of guest speakers that they can experience in the week,” DeCubellis said. “It’s really just the chance to be immersed in this political process in the highest level.”

Danielle Tinker, a 19-yearCold 4-H member from Escambia County, is one kind of these “young people” who began the trip and got to discover Washington, D.C. and also the inauguration.

“It was amazing to generally be there,” Tinker said. “It was amazing to stand there around the mall [National Mall] and witness one president transferring electricity to a next president.”

Tinker also said they were to understand how presidential campaigns are run, and just what the chief branch does usually.

“It was in-depth,” Tinker said.

Angela Tinker, Tinker’s mother, said Tinker started at 4-H when she just Few years old, and this this system has experienced a significant impact on Tinker’s life.

“She’s turn into confident leader,” Angela said. “She has continued to develop all kinds of skills.”

So it was no real shock when Angela and her husband were very supportive of Tinker attending the inauguration.

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Angela said. “The things they are capable of seeing and experience around Washington, D.C., before the inauguration I feel that they need to take using them for lifetime.”

Tinker said the knowledge was something monumental, which might say she was there to her children and grandchildren.

Angela mentioned?she wished she might have gone in addition.

“I needed to hide in their own suitcase,” she?said.
