
The STEM Intern of this year award is offered to some student containing shown an exceptional on the job, has demonstrated initiative, has completed presentations, and possesses had a visible impact over the company with whom they’ve already worked. This season, Ashley Martof, a senior industrial engineer student, won the award.
Ashley declared she toured America Makes in Spring 2013, and therefore was the very first time she was brought to additive manufacturing and 3D printing. She said she fell fond of we have immediately. Ashley began interning with America Makes in January, where she aids in workforce and academic outreach.
America Makes may be the first institute from the National Network of Manufacturing Innovation. “Our focus is on additive manufacturing research”, said Mike Hripko, director of workforce and academic outreach, ” Simultaneously, small children by developing and offering educational content, we’re going to enable people to make best use of the newest technology.”

One on the first projects Ashley did was develop an additive manufacturing curriculum for teachers.
“Last year if you Googled ‘additive manufacturing,’ no most current listings for curriculum appeared. Teaching tools for 3D printing hadn’t been developed; expertise to generate was really new. Therefore i needed to research additive manufacturing and develop curriculum yourself,” Ashley said.
Other projects Ashley completed include building a 3D printing student camp, where she took the youngsters from 2D and 3D basics to designing and printing his or her products in 10 days, designing a 3D letter to Barack obama, designing a side mirror to the 3D Print Your car or truck project from Local Motors, and designing a coyote for your collaboration award.
Ashley had also been each student participant?within the STEM Professional Practice Program and would be a participant while using PICAM 1 and also the OH-PENN grants.
After Ashley graduates in May, she intentions of going back to YSU to pursue a master’s degree in industrial engineering.
