Student Spotlight: Estee George

Youngstown State University College of STEM has a reputation for excellence, and students like junior Estee George propel that excellence forward. Estee is actually a double major in Chemical Engineering and Applied Mathematics and it is minoring in Chemistry.

Estee keeps herself busy at YSU. She will be the treasurer of Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Fraternity which is a member of the two STEM Leadership Society and Women in Mathematics. Also on campus, she’s a part of the teachers Democrats.

While the girl with very busy on campus, Estee still requires time to accomplish volunteer deal with the Relay for all his life, Habitat for Humanity, and Friends on the Mahoning River.

Growing up in Boardman, Estee completed Ursuline Highschool. As with high school senior, Estee looked around for nice colleges.

“I chose YSU since i was very impressed using its strong STEM College, especially its excellent engineering program,” Estee says.

Estee is currently working together with the chemical engineering, mathematics, and biology departments researching potential biofuels. She and her team research and look at the fermentation of sugar and xylose into butanol. They hope that butanol will end up being a very efficient fuel for that automotive industry.

Since Estee finds research in biofuels so interesting, she plans on continuing her research in graduate school and in many cases when earning her doctorate. Estee hopes to continue be employed in alternative energy within their professional career.

Estee has now proven herself as an effective leader using the STEM Leadership Society, and then she hopes other students will follow in her footsteps.

“I wish to influence other students from the STEM College to remain pumped up about scientific research and breakthroughs inside sections of clean energy and green technology,” Estee says.

She attributes a great deal of her success to Dr. Yates and Dr. Walker. Estee claims that Dr. Yates and Dr. Walker happen to be her greatest influences.

“[They] have given me the tools to adopt my research thus far and [they] have instilled within me an excitement for mathematical modeling and mathematical biology,”?Estee says with regards to the two.

At eliminate April, Estee will likely be attending the 35th Symposium on Biotechnology for Fuels and Chemicals in Portland, Oregon. She could be presenting her research and learning about other projects sticking with the same research topics.
