All students ought to understand that while using New Year comes the most current scholarship search. Youngstown State University plus the College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics offers many scholarships to a a number of students. Scholarships are awarded in line with several factors including different majors, class standing (freshman, sophomore, etc.), financial need, and a lot more.

Students must start the scholarship and educational funding process by completing the coming year’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA helps the YSU Federal funding Office to ascertain a student’s financial need, thus most scholarships require that you’ve got a completed FAFSA on file. This application can be completed for free within the FAFSA website. Students should complete their FAFSA applications by February 15th.

The second step in the process is hunting for scholarships. You will find three different types of scholarships that STEM Students needs to look for:

  1. STEM scholarships: these are scholarships available only to students majoring in STEM. Applications are available to the STEM Scholarship Bulletin Board within the second floor of Moser Hall via the Dean’s office or using your department.
  2. YSU scholarships: these scholarships will not be dependant on major but on other criteria, which include class standing, county of residence, highschool, ethnic or religions background, and financial need. Hunt for them within the YSU Money for college website.
  3. External scholarships: these scholarships are available by organizations and agencies outside of YSU. You can find a listing of some different kinds of scholarships about the STEM Scholarship Bulletin Board, or try your own personal look up on Google or on scholarship google, which include fastweb.com

Once you’ve found scholarships to get, the next step is completing the applications. Don’t delay! Most scholarship deadlines remain March 1st.

Tips and tricks:

  1. Keep a calendar with all of the output deadlines of numerous scholarships.
  2. Group applications together. Some applications may need similar essays, resumes, or portfolios. These similarities will help read more scholarship applications completed.
  3. Keep your complete information, like resumes and portfolios, up-to-date. When you keep the products up-to-date, it will take much less time to get them together when you require them.
  4. Make guaranteed to have references ready. Some scholarships might need precisely the name and make contact with information to the reference, however some (normally for larger scholarships) might require a letter of recommendation.

The office of STEM Outreach and Scholarships (Moser Hall 2290) has further information on scholarships here and even more tips here! For questions or additional scholarship information, please contact Emilie Eberth, Coordinator: STEM Outreach and Scholarships, at [email protected] or 330.941.2884.
