Hailey Sullivan, a junior majoring in chemical engineering, could be the first recipient of the newly established Co-Op of the season Award.
Sullivan participated in a co-op at ABB, a global leader in power and automation technologies, positioned in Wickliffe, Ohio, from January to August to be a proposal engineer. She secured the co-op via a past Internship/Co-Op Expo.
“It bridges sales aspects and engineering, which happens to be variety of nice since you get to see various different tasks of the business,” Sullivan said. “A proposal engineer results in a technical document that details various regions of a project, and it’s provided for a client so as to see whether or otherwise not to merely select the engineering project.”
To complete these proposals, she’d to carry out cost analyses, create system architecture drawings and create engineering estimates. Each proposal took anywhere from an hour or so to the week, for the large the work was.
“They actually gave me a great number of responsibility and freedom, well, i done larger control system upgrades, so i may run risk-review meetings,” Sullivan said.
She declared that to be able to run the risk-review meetings gave her lots of confidence. As being a sophomore at that time, Sullivan surely could lead a group of people which are high up in ABB and answer their questions. She asserted combined with the proposals and risk-review meetings, she was handed other small, side projects to be effective on.
“I wrote different work instructions, detailing our departmental processes, and once summer rolled around when the new co-op came, they explained to be his mentor,” Sullivan said. “I wanted to teach him the best way to create proposals and everything.”
Sullivan intentions to get back to ABB in the summertime, where she might work with the systems group. For now, this lady has her sights set on making plans to help her education.
“Right now my plan is to examine for your GRE over winter break, take that, after which it at my senior year I can sign up for grad schools in addition to a bunch of jobs,” she said. “Ideally I’ll be capable of getting in a school close enough to your job which acquire, and so i would wish to start pursuing a master’s while I’m working.”
Sullivan is associated with many STEM-related groups, such as the Chem E-Car team, the Society of females Engineers, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Tau Beta Pi as well as Stem Leadership Society.
